Outer (had posted in pages first)

Today we went to the Cabildo and the Presbytere museums and saw many interesting things.  I thought that both of these exhibits had interesting things to offer, but I personally liked the Cablido better.  We went to the Presbytere first, and it had a lot of interactive devices with this exhibit.  You could click on buttons and learn about what you were looking at.  The thing I liked most about this museum was their exhibits on hurricane Katrina and Mardi Gras.  I feel as if this museum did a good job of showing you what it was like for the people directly impacted by it.  It can be hard to put yourself in someone’s shoes but they did a good job of it through their displays and a video that they had.  They also had a lot of Mardi Gras dresses to look at, which was interesting to see.  Although I liked going to the Presbytere, I enjoyed the Caildo better.  They had a lot of interesting weapons on display, such as a cannon ball, flint locked pistols, and a lot of swords.  It was very interesting to see swords for the 1700s.  There was so much design that went into them, and the weird thing to me is that a lot of the swords had the design of a bird on them.  I don’t know why this is, and the displays didn’t say it.  Another thing I liked looking at there was old kitchenware, it was beautiful and had lots of design in them.  The museums did a very good job of displaying the history of New Orleans.

One of the things that stuck out to me most through visiting the museums and talking to people was just how much they love this city.  Going through an evacuation would be a very difficult time, but I understand why they would want to come back so quickly.  Home is home to people, and New Orleans is the home to many.  When talking to a local about what it was like to go through hurricane Katrina they said, “It was hard, my family and I had to go to Texas, but we were ready to get right back when it was all over”.  He also told me that some places had flooding of 18 feet, which i thought was a crazy amount to be flooded.  I can see why someone would be so attached to New Orleans as a home, there is so much to do there, and a place like that would quickly grow on you.  The thing I found most impactful would be just how much the locals love their city.  I can understand why they would love living there so much; I truly don’t think there is a city that I will visit in my life that I will like more.  It would be hard for me to move away from my family, but if I was to ever do that I think I would choose New Orleans to make as my second home.  Even though they went through a catastrophic event I would have to make an assumption that there is no place they’d rather live.
