There has
been much excitement leading up to this trip, and I have never been that far
Southwest before. The farthest south I
have been was in the warm tropical climate of Naples, Florida. I expect that it will be warm in New Orleans,
but I also expect it to be a different, earthier setting. Along with all the excitement there has been
a good deal of nervous stress to go along with it. The stress of paying for the class, what to
do with my German Shepherd, and much more.
I have a friend from school that said her mom would watch my dog Kona
for me, but I am nervous having to leave her with a stranger for a week. I am not so nervous about packing, seeing how
I still haven’t done any packing yet. I
am dreading a tedious 17 hour train ride though. The longest train ride I have taken before
was 2 and a half hours. I feel as if I
will become extremely bored, restless, and have a hard time sleeping. The research I have done based on the popular
religions of New Orleans has been quite interesting. I have already learned a great deal that I
didn’t previously know. I am skeptical
of entering a voodoo shop in New Orleans, because I don’t think messing with
fortune telling or witchcraft like activity is something to take lightly. I feel as if the nightlife in New Orleans
will be my favorite part, and I am excited to see their music life.

I think
that this course will be a fun learning experience. I think that my classmates and I will get to
see culture like most of us have never experienced before. Growing up in a small town in Central
Illinois has made it so I have not seen much of the country or the world. There is a lot more to Earth than what I have
seen, so I am excited to get to experience a little more of it. I think that we have many fun plans ahead of
us on the trip, which will give us a fun way of learning about other cultures. The first time I went to a big city it was a
culture shock for me, I had never experienced what it was like to be in a big
city. I hope to get to experience that
same kind of culture shock and for it to be something that I like. I took this course because I had a few
friends also taking it, and I thought it would be an exciting way to get class
credits. I want to learn what it would
be like to live in New Orleans, and also see the difference in how some people
live their daily lives compared to my own.
I am most looking forward to the nightlife and music. One of my favorite hobbies is going and
seeing live music, and I thought to myself what better way to go to one of the
biggest cities for music than heading to New Orleans.
