Outer (had put in pages and not post)

Today we went on a tour of the city, and went to the pharmacy museum.  My favorite part was the tour, and I wasn’t that excited by the museum.  For the tour we went by Jackson Square and learned about the architecture of the city.  I thought it was neat to hear him talk about all the different designs and details that went into what we were looking at.  One thing I thought was really neat was when he said that the oldest apartment buildings in America were right by Jackson Square (my dad is a landlord and has owned apartments since I can remember).  I also liked going to Congo Square (the trees there were beautiful).  I thought that Cemetery 1 was a pretty neat experience.  We got to visit the grave of Marie Laveau, as well as the future gravesite of Nicholas Cage.  After we went on a tour of the city we went to the Pharmacy museum.  I thought that this part of the trip was interesting at times, but not that fun as a whole.  I think that having it be a guided tour made it more interesting than just looking at the artifacts with out being told what they were.  One of the most alarming things there to myself was the metal catheter (ouch).  After the museum I got to go look at some art, and I enjoyed that part.  There is so much art all over the city already, but it was fun to go look at it from a gallery standpoint.

One of the first things that I learned from today was just how prevalent the slave trade used to be in New Orleans.  I knew that the slave trade existed and was a horrible thing, but that was made more clear today.  When we went to the Pharmacy Museum the tour guide told us how right across the street you could see the words “exchange” but what we couldn’t see was the word “slave”.  He went on to tell us about how one of the biggest slave trades in America was right across the street at some time.  Although this may have been one of the biggest slave trade areas at one point in time, I don’t feel like there is a racial divide here.  While walking around and people watching I have noticed that everyone is just here to have a good time.  I have talked to some random people (most of which being of color), and everyone has been nice and fun to talk to.  I went out and watched a band on my own today (which was a blast), and I talked to three of the band members, which were all nice.  I wouldn’t say I am a shy person, but I also choose when I want to be outgoing or keep to myself.  I have had my moments during the trip where I will want my “me” time, but others where I am more out going.  One thing I have learned about myself is that it's not a bad idea to be the first one to say hello to a stranger.

Just be nice
