Today for my free day I had a blast! I started it by going out to Jackson Square with Holly, Ashley, Kim, and Cassie. We just walked around and did whatever we felt like. After lunch Cassie and Kim stayed out with me, but the other two girls went home. I knew Cassie and Kim before this trip, but we never had hung out outside of school before the trip. I was glad that they stayed out with me, because we had a good time. It got to the point where we were just walking around aimlessly and going to whatever caught our eye. I was glad that we did this because it is nice to have time where you are just walking around doing whatever you want. At dinnertime we met back up with Holly and Ashley. Holly and I decided to split a seafood platter, and we had a ton of food left over. The girls decided to go back to the hotel, so I went out by myself. I aimlessly walked around going to whatever bar had good music coming out of it. I wound up at 4 different bars throughout the night, and all of them had some amazing music. My favorite part of the trip was walking around alone and finding good music to go listen to. I got to the point where I was completely carefree of who I was with, I just wanted to be alone and dancing. Live music is one of my favorite things in life, and New Orleans music did not disappoint.

I found exploring the city on my own terms to be the highlight of the trip. It is nice to have an agenda of what you’re going to do at a location that you have never been to, but its also nice to be able to go do what you want once you hit a point you don’t want to be somewhere anymore. Although we had structured things to do each day, I never let that stop me from experiencing the city on my own terms. This taught me that although I like spending time with people, I have no problem doing my own thing. I met some cool people from out of town and made friends at most places I went to. I think it is a good thing to be willing to talk to people you don’t know, because you never know what you may have in common with them. I met a couple from Philadelphia, and we exchanged contact information. They told me I should go on a swamp tour with them, but I decided not to go and sleep in the next day. I also met some girls at a bar, and we were going to another one together. Once we got there though I decided I just wanted to dance and not talk to anyone. This trip taught me that I don’t need anyone to have a good time, and meeting strangers is a good thing to do, you just have to be safe about it. One of the last things this city taught me was to be kind and look out for others. After we ate our dinner we had a lot of leftovers that were going to go to waste. Instead of it going to waste I got three to go boxes and gave them to the homeless. It is important to be kind to others, and try to help people out when they can.
